The Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) have started a major assault on areas held by the Revolutionary Front, an armed coalition that is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Aleppo, it has been reported.
An SDF source in the Shahba region told Aryen news on Monday afternoon that the Turkish army and the allied Free Syrian Army started shelling the Shahba region around 15:00 local time on Monday.
The attacks are targeting the villages of Hasiya, Samuqa and the Shahba dam situated in the Shahba region, west of the city of al-Bab, according to reports.
The Revolutionary Front reportedly hit a vehicle equipped with Dushka weaponry as fighting continues in the region. Turkish reconnaissance aircraft and warplanes are flying over the region simultaneously.
Kurdish agency ANHA reported that the Free Syrian Army is using chemical weapons in attacks against the positions of the Revolutionary Front in the SDF-held village of Tell Madiq from the village of Tell Malid.
The attacks have intensified in the last week, with Turkey-backed rebels aiming to open a new front against the Syrian regime in Aleppo, and to destroy Kurdish attempts to link the autonomous cantons of Afrin and Kobani.
